Harvesting Rainwater

There are so many ways to simply help make our environment we live in more sustainable.
One way is Rainwater Harvesting!
Rainwater Harvesting is capturing and storing rainfall to irrigate plants or to supply people and animals.
One way that we can help save some of the water consumption in our society is by harvesting the rainwater. It doesn't help that it doesn't rain very much in Arizona but this is one way we could save water. We can use the harvested water to drink ourselves. Rainwater is still sanitary to drink you can also drain it or run it through a filter in your home. Another use could be for plants or for your animals. Think of all the water we waste in Arizona for watering our grass and all of our plants that we want to keep green! Using this extra water from the harvesting will reduce your water bill which is convinient for you.

A “catchment” is any large surface that can capture and/or carry water to where it can be used immediately or stored.

There are different sizes of storage to hold the rainwater. There are very large one and very small ones depending on how much rainwater you want to harvest and use on a daily basis. Usually this can be hidden behind your house. Water can be stored in steel, oak or underground storage systems. Simply cleaning your gutters is a great way to keep maintenance up to make sure the rain water stored is cleaned. If you are doing your landscape or adding gutters on your house you can be conscience of getting water to the plants in your front yard directly so instead of taking it out of the storage when it rains it goes directly to the plants you have planted.
